5 Events & Counting: Chris Keniley’s 2026 Marching Band Adjudication Schedule Continues to Grow
The 2026 marching band season is underway, and I’m excited and grateful to share that my adjudication schedule has now grown to five marching band events this fall.
Each opportunity to serve as a marching band adjudicator is something I value. Thank you to the directors, contest organizers, schools, and organizations who have invited me to join their adjudication teams this season.
With more than 25 years of experience in the marching arts as an educator, instructor, designer, performer, clinician, and adjudicator, my goal behind the judging sheet has always been the same: provide constructive, educational feedback that helps students and programs grow.
Marching Band Adjudication That Goes Beyond the Score
Competition scores and placements are part of the marching band experience, but effective adjudication should offer something programs can take with them after contest day.
When evaluating an ensemble, I strive to recognize what students are accomplishing while identifying specific opportunities for continued development.
Good adjudication should be:
- Constructive — offering information that can be used in rehearsal.
- Educational — helping students and staff understand why something is or is not working.
- Specific — responding to the performance taking place on the field.
- Respectful — recognizing the time and effort students and educators have invested.
- Caption-focused — evaluating the responsibilities of the assigned judging area.
That educational philosophy is at the heart of my approach to marching band adjudication.
Available Marching Band Judging Captions
Through CK Marching Services, I am available for marching band competitions, festivals, invitationals, and other performance events in several adjudication areas:
Music Performance
Evaluation of musical achievement, including ensemble sound, balance, blend, intonation, rhythmic clarity, expression, and overall musical communication.
Visual Performance
Evaluation of visual achievement, including individual and ensemble responsibilities, technique, clarity, form, movement, staging, and coordination.
General Effect
Evaluation of how musical and visual elements work together to communicate the program and create an effective experience for the audience.
Percussion
Evaluation and educational feedback for marching percussion and drumline performance.
Drum Major
Evaluation of conducting, communication, leadership, presentation, and other responsibilities associated with the drum major role.
I am also available for individual and ensemble captions depending on the format and needs of the event.
2026 Marching Band Adjudication Schedule Reaches Five Events
Reaching five scheduled adjudication events for the 2026 season is an exciting milestone as I continue expanding this part of CK Marching Services.
More importantly, every event represents another opportunity to work with music educators and provide meaningful feedback to young musicians and performers.
My experience in the marching arts includes work as an educator, adjudicator, drill designer, music arranger, visual designer, percussion instructor, clinician, and performer. That broad background helps me approach each performance from both an adjudicator’s and educator’s perspective.

Although my schedule continues to fill, I currently have limited dates remaining for the 2026 marching band season.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Marching Season
Marching band is built around growth.
Shows evolve. Students improve. Ensembles become stronger from one rehearsal and performance to the next.
I’m thankful for the directors and organizations who have trusted me to be part of that process during the 2026 marching band season, and I’m looking forward to five events—and hopefully a few more—this fall.
If your competition, festival, or marching band event is still looking for an experienced Music, Visual, General Effect, Percussion, or Drum Major adjudicator, I would be glad to discuss your event.
