Importance of Piano Tuning

Unlike many instruments, a piano is constantly under tension. Each string holds tremendous pressure, and changes in temperature and humidity cause those strings to expand and contract. Over time, this leads to the instrument gradually drifting out of tune.

When a piano is not properly tuned, the effects go beyond just sounding “off.”

Students begin to internalize incorrect pitch relationships. Singers may struggle to match tone accurately. Ensembles can unknowingly adjust to flawed tuning, which impacts overall musical development.

An out-of-tune piano can subtly distract a student(s) from learning.
