At Chris K Music, every piano has its own story, and every tuning is a chance to help an instrument sound its very best.

This week’s Piano Tuning Friday was a busy oneโ€”I had the opportunity to tune three pianos throughout the day! One of those pianos was especially memorable: a beautiful rustic Kimball baby grand.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve tuned many Kimball uprights and spinets in homes, churches, and schools across Central Illinois. Surprisingly, this was the first Kimball baby grand I’ve had the privilege of servicing. Even after hundreds of piano tunings, there are still new experiences that make this profession exciting.

Each piano responds differently depending on its age, construction, environment, and maintenance history. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy piano tuning so muchโ€”every instrument presents a unique opportunity to improve its tone, stability, and playability for the musicians who enjoy it.

A sincere thank you to the Manuel family for welcoming me into your home and trusting me with your beautiful piano. I truly appreciate your hospitality and the opportunity to help keep your instrument performing its best.

Why Regular Piano Tuning Matters

Even if a piano isn’t played every day, the strings are under thousands of pounds of tension. Seasonal humidity and temperature changes cause the wood and soundboard to expand and contract, gradually pulling the piano out of tune.

Routine tuning helps:

  • Maintain accurate pitch
  • Improve the overall sound quality
  • Extend the life of the instrument
  • Catch small issues before they become costly repairs
  • Make practicing and performing more enjoyable

For most homes, I recommend scheduling a piano tuning every 6โ€“12 months.

Schedule Your Piano Tuning

Whether you own a grand piano, baby grand, upright, studio, console, or spinet, I’d be happy to help keep your instrument sounding its best.
